How do self Driving cars Work? The future is automated.
Self Driving cars are just a few years away from us now for public use. They are already functioning in their full fledged way in western countries for cooperate use. We may reach our desired destinations while we relax with our families.
Imagine if some cars just come at the wrong side and instead of you passing the remarks to the driver, your car will pass on bits to other car. Well, that’s the future of automated cars. But admitting this all the buzz of Self Driving cars and their benefits you may be wondering , how do they work?
A lot of cars are semi automatic today. Like auto parking feature is so common in flagship level cars of the brands. Brands like Mercedes, Audi have wake up feature in their cars. The cars today are intelligent enough to detect whether the driver is paying attention or has slept. As the cars notice lesser attention, the wake up feature turns on to get an eye of the driver. Safety is the prime concern with the advancements in the field of self driving cars. In the recent conducted tests 90% of Self driving cars which met accident had humans’ driving fault and this makes self driving cars way more reliable.
Autonomous cars are unaffected by driver’s fatigue or emotional illness. These cars can scan multiple directions at a time and hence making autonomous cars pretty active and safe. In case someone doesn’t know how to drive and there arrives an emergency to go to a different place, self driving cars will be a boon in that case.
Layers of autonomy
Different cars are capable of different levels of self-driving, and are often described by researchers on a scale of 0-5.
Level 0: All major systems are controlled by humans
Level 1: Certain systems, such as cruise control or automatic braking, may be controlled by the car, one at a time
Level 2: The car offers at least two simultaneous automated functions, like acceleration and steering, but requires humans for safe operation
Level 3: The car can manage all safety-critical functions under certain conditions, but the driver is expected to take over when alerted
Level 4: The car is fully-autonomous in some driving scenarios, though not all
Level 5: The car is completely capable of self-driving in every situation

How do Self Driving Cars Work?
Just like the air traffic management the radars will play a major role in the ground traffic management when automated cars will be covering the 90% of the traffic on roads. The technological leaps and developments in recent years have made self driving cars a reality. Blind spot monitoring while driving is something very difficult for humans. The anticipation for having collision and warning the user and taking preventive measure will be somewhat slower in case of human drivers. Blind spot monitoring sensors , collision warning sensors, Heat sensors, camera , radar, LEDs and ultrasonic sensors all work together for safe Self Driving cars experience.

IoT sensors as explained above can monitor blind spots , can anticipate collisions, Temperature sensors can detects the type of vehicle approaching, smart cameras will act as eye and Radar system to measure the distance far from nearest vehicle.
2. Iot Connectivity with environment
Self driving cars use cloud computing to analyse traffic data. Just like google maps analyse the traffic, but this is way above google maps. Weather data , maps data , adjacent cars data, inclinations, depressions and road conditions are all needed to be taken care off. This helps the cars monitor their surroundings and make intelligent decisions. Self driving cars will be recommended to connected to internet always for updated information fetching. For little internet glitches the local computation will be able to handle operations.
3. Software Algorithms in most optimized way
To analyse the data collected in above two steps there must be an optimized set of data structures to give a quick and reliable output to the car so that it would perform the most accurate operation. All this needs to happen with the same speed as of human brain or even quicker. The decision making should be flawless and quick to avoid accidents

Google and Tesla have progressed a lot over self driving cars and have fully functional models working. Tesla cars work by analyzing the environment using their proprietary ” Auto Pilot”. It uses combination of maps , Radar, cameras and which cracks as “sophisticated image recognition.” or “computer Vision”.
Google cars make use of Light instead of Radio waves and this sensor technology make Google’s car bypass the need of steering and pedals.
