Quora Hacked | 100 million accounts compromised
Yet another mega data breach on Friday (30th november 2018). The biggest thumbnails of “Quora Hacked” are now visible all over the web. Quora the world’s biggest question-answer forum , which has solution of almost everything has faced a massive data breach. An approximate of 100 million accounts’ data was compromised.
“We recently discovered that some user data was compromised as a result of unauthorized access to one of our systems by a malicious third party. We are working rapidly to investigate the situation further and take the appropriate steps to prevent such incidents in the future.” said Adam D’Angelo , CEO of Quora.
100 million accounts’ data was compromised when hackers got access to the quora servers. Quora’s internal security teams and online forensic teams have been investigating the issue.
The necessary steps have already been taken to avoid such issue in future and rectification of current data breach is in progress. The following information of 100 million accounts was hacked:
- Email ID
- Encrypted passwords
- Data imported by linked accounts, when authorized by users.
- Answer requests
- Down votes and
- Direct messages.
All we can say is , whole information of 100 million accounts got in reach of hackers and now god knows what will be done with that information.
Quora has already been intimating users whose data has been compromised. Moreover Quora has logged out majority of the accounts from app and web as a precaution to identify if any passwords are changed.
The question answer forum is pretty sure about the fact that passwords won’t be decrypted in any scenario as they have applied public and private hash-keys to encryption algorithms.
